Approved sketch
We made mosaics on a private order for a living room. The panels had to be assembled from large painting modules that mimic the picturesque surface of the painting.
The reference approved by the customer
It was decided to assemble the mosaic from a mixture of several materials - crushed colored smalt of a small module (in the lower part of the picture) and the rest of the image from larger pieces.
The mosaic was assembled in a direct set immediately on the mounting structure and the grid. Then the finished mosaic was transported to the facility and the final installation was performed on site.

How was the selection of the material and the assembly of the work?
It was important for us to convey the texture and manner of the author's drawing, so in agreement with the customer, we decided to mix two modules in one panel.
A larger module simulating paint strokes was selected for the background, and a smaller one for images of faces, clothes and other small details.
Also, to add visual depth, we used two editing compositions - a lighter one on the background and a darker one on the figures, this gave the image a certain depth and volume.
The material used on the background is thick colored glass (about 7 mm) in different shades. Such glass was produced in our production and supplied to our workshop in plates measuring 15x15 cm.
The glass was cut into large modules of different formats with a glass cutter and broken into pieces with a special breaker.

Several types of roller cutters were used to work with the material: Italian reinforced wire cutters, stained glass cutters, conventional disc cutters.
All the fragments of the image were assembled parallel to each other, the background and faces, clothes and outline. The finished panel should have turned out to be solid and correspond to the presented reference.

The mosaic was mounted on cement adhesive without the use of final grout.
